About Laura S. Garrett, RD, Fitness Trainer
At a young age, Laura developed an interest in nutrition and fitness. Beginning with the elimination of sweets around age 12, the overall tweaking of her personal healthy lifestyle launched. Just a year later, Laura omitted other junk foods. Additionally, it was around this time running became an interest, although not quite a passion. "I remember my first 1-mile race...I literally collapsed after crossing the finish line."
Today, Laura has completed a few marathons, several half marathons and really just loves running, if for nothing else, to maintain overall well being. In addition to eating lots of whole fruits and veggies, juicing has become a regular part of her diet now along with being a pescatarian (a.k.a., "vegetarian" that eats fish).
Laura's college achievements include a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University (class '94) and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition/Dietetics from The University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical Center at Dallas Southwestern Allied Health Sciences School in 1997.
After graduating from UTSW, Laura became a registered dietitian. Obtaining her first personal training certification at The Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research (1997), she is currently certified by American Council on Exercise (
). Laura is a member of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (
) and Texas Dietetic Association (
Now in her forties, Laura's personal fitness goals focus heavily on strength training to prevent aging and running to maintaining cardiovascular health. Professional aspirations include helping others achieve a nutritionally healthy active lifestyle.
